Ethics

Equal Opportunity & Ethical Employer
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer with a strong commitment to upholding the value that diversity provides to our company. Applicants are considered on the basis of their qualifications and competencies, without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital or other status or the presence of a non-job-related medical condition or disability.

Living Wages
We maintain very high standards of workers pay & conditions. All staff, contractors and temps are paid at least the Living Wage. The minimum wage is nowhere near enough to live on and companies should not embarrass themselves by expecting people do charity work for them and for tax payers to subsidise them! Large companies like Amazon and Tesco pay their staff very low wages knowing that the government will be paying their staff enough benefits & tax credits to keep them alive. This means that every time you buy off these large companies you are helping them continue to take money from your taxes! We suggest that you buy off companies like ours that pay their staff enough to live on and don't expect to you to subsidise them.
Our staff are looked at not as robots - but people whose well being is valued and personalities to be developed. Therefore they are given free private health care, the best equipment for the job they do, free healthy beverages (including fresh juice), free lunch on Tuesdays, educational & training development. If you speak to them on the phone I'm sure you'll experience the positive results of these policies.

Environmental Responsibility & Recycling
We take care to purchase from suppliers that have some respect for the planet and for their staff. We also actively encourage our suppliers to use biodegradable materials.
  • We are happy to pay a premium for our electricity from www.goodenergy.co.uk because they ensure our electricity comes from renewable sources - instead of destroying the planet for our children.
  • All our food & kitchen waste is composted on-site in a worm composter designed by a member of staff. The resulting worm castings are given to the organic farm we help fund - www.tuppennybarn.com.
  • We pay a premium to use environmentally friendly packaging. In partnership with our ethical supplier www.paperback.coop we ensure that we use recycled materials for both packaging and office supplies. Paper, envelopes, cards, doc wallets, bin bags etc are all 100% recycled and biodegradable material.
  • Almost all the packaging materials introduced by us into the supply chain are biodegradable - for example we use paper-based wrapping tape instead of PVC tape.
  • We use 100% recycled & biodegradable paper void-fill rather than bubble-wrap or polystyrene.
  • Almost all the waste generated by our office and warehouse is recycled - this includes pallets, cardboard, paper, plastic, electronic equipment, furniture and food packaging.
  • We use Xerox sold-ink printers www.xerox.co.uk/office/solid-ink/engb.html#_sustainability which do not generate toxic cancerous toner dust and eliminate wasteful toner cartridges.
  • All staff juice, teas, coffee, sugar, milk etc is organic and/or Fair Trade.
  • We are registered as a Small Battery Producer with the Environment Agency: BPRN03397
The cream and soda chargers cannot be re-used so must be recycled as scrap steel. Extracting iron-ore requires massive environmental pollution and western support of (often) despotic regimes, so we urge you to recycle your used steel. You can return them to us or put them in your council recycling bins as scrap steel or drop them to a local authority recycling centre. We donate used chargers to Art Colleges and have sponsored students making use of them, for example the key rings available on this site.

    Social Responsibility
Businesses are wealth generating enterprises that are part of wider society, located in local communities. Unfortunately most large companies don't have this view and they suck wealth out of communities and deposit it into offshore bank accounts to avoid paying their tax or give it away to their share holders - who are often of a similar ilk. Large supermarkets, retail chains, banks, pension funds etc all pretend to be 'sustainable' but exist only to exploit local people out of their hard earned money and profit from destroying the planet. For example Tesco try to persuade local people of their good intentions with their 'schools' vouchers & community schemes - the reality is they destroy local businesses, have an appalling employment record and take profits offshore. We urge you to boycott them where you can.
Unlike Amazon or eBay we are not a foreign company which views the population of this country as people to exploit and taxes as something that you plot to avoid paying - we were nurtured by this country and we make money in this country - so we should pay taxes in this country!
CLS Ltd believes in supporting the local community, improving the local built environment and protecting local wildlife & natural environment. These are some of the good causes we support:.
  • We have for many years sponsored a local youth football team www.pitchero.com/clubs/horndeanyouthfcunder12s
  • We support a local organic farm & education centre www.tuppennybarn.com who provide some members of staff with delicious seasonal organic veg!
  • We support www.coffeekids.org a charity which is working in coffee producing communities to improve working and living conditions.
  • We are corporate members of the Hampshire Wildlife Trust www.hwt.org.uk.
  • The Director has been at the sharp end of violence in countries with oppressed populations and witnessed the incredibly brave work of the Red Cross & Red Crescent so he supports them with a monthly donation.
  • We donate each year to campaigns that require urgent help.
  • We support the solvent abuse charity Re-Solv www.re-solv.org.
  • We support the local wild animal rescue centre www.brentlodge.org.

Protecting democracy & stopping the war machine.
We have a principled stand against companies which produce instruments of death & destruction - we will not sell our products to arms manufacturing companies despite them wanting to purchase from us. These companies make money by encouraging our governments & media to scare us and take us to war - don't be fooled into believing foreigners are out to get you, they have plenty of things to worry about in their own countries!
We encourage you to use the power of the web and get your news from opposing sources so that you can make your own mind up. Be sceptical about Sky or BBC News - but don't react to their bias by believing in conspiracy theories that often have racist agendas hidden behind them!

If you have any savings it is better to invest in organisations that arn't just funnelling money to the super-rich to spend on celebrity life styles. Try www.moveyourmoney.org.uk who have lots of suggestions of organisations that are more likely to invest in your local community than use it to swill champagne and buy new Bentleys! Many people around the world buy precious metals and jewellery instead of risking putting their savings in the banking system - and TV pundit Max Keiser advises 'buy silver - crash JP Morgan'!
