Ethics
Equal Opportunity & Ethical Employer
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer with a strong commitment to upholding the value that diversity provides to our company. Applicants are considered on the basis of their qualifications and competencies, without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital or other status or the presence of a non-job-related medical condition or disability.
We aim to run a business based on sound ethical practices. We maintain very high standards of workers pay & conditions. Our staff are looked at not as robots - but people whose wellbeing is valued and personalities to be developed. Therefore they are given free private health care, feee health checkups, the best equipment for the job they do, free healthy beverages, free lunch on Tuesdays, educational & training development. If you speak to them on the phone I'm sure you'll experience the positive results of these policies.
Environmental Responsibility & Recycling
We pay a premium to use environmentally friendly packaging. In partnership with our ethical supplier
www.paperback.coop we ensure that we use recycled materials for both packaging and office supplies. Paper, envelopes, cards, doc wallets etc etc are all 100% recycled material. All packaging materials introduced by us into the supply chain are biodegradable - we try to use paper-based materials rather than bubble-wrap or PVC tape. Where we do use bubble wrap we use Sancell-bio Oxo-Biodegradable. We also actively encourage our suppliers to use biodegradable materials. All waste generated by our office and warehouse is recycled - this includes pallets, cardboard, plastic, laser cartridges, electronic equipment, furniture and food packaging. All teas and coffee is organic and/or Fair Trade.
Company vehicles run on 100% Bio-Diesel in co-operation with our supplier Lockgate Nurseries - who can be found on
www. biodieselfillingstations.co.uk
The cream and soda chargers cannot be re-used so must be recycled as scrap steel. Extracting iron-ore requires massive environmental pollution and foreign interventions in support of (often) despotic regimes, so we urge you to recycle your used steel. You can return them to us or put them in your council recycling bins as scrap steel or drop them to a local authority recycling centre. We donate used chargers to Art Colleges and have sponsored students making use of them, for example the key-rings available on this site.
We buy our electricity from Ecotricity - who only use renewable energy.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Businesses are wealth generating enterprises that are part of wider society, located in local communities. Unfortunately most large companies don't have this view and they suck wealth out of communities and deposit it into offshore bank accounts or give it away to their share holders - who are often of a similar ilk. Large super markets, banks, pension funds etc are of course of the worst examples of this behaviour. We do not do this. CLS Ltd believes in supporting the local community, improving the local environment and protecting its local wildlife and natural environment.
We are corporate members of the Hampshire Wildlife Trust, Brent Lodge Bird & Wildlife Trust and Coffee kids.
We sponsor a local under 12s football team.
We support a local organic farm & education centre
www.tuppennybarn.com who provide some members of staff with delicious seasonal organic veg!
We support
www.coffeekids.org a charity which is working in coffee producing communities to improve working and living conditions.
For the past 7 years we have supported the Red Cross with a payment every month. The director has been volunteering abroad, been at the sharp end of violence and witnessed the incredibly brave work the Red Cross & Red Crescent do.
We donate around £1000 each year to urgent campaigns that require immediate help.
We also support the solvent abuse charity Re-Solv www.re-solv.org.
We also support the local wild animal rescue centre www.brentlodge.org with loads of strip-cut shredded paper, as well as our used laser toner cartridges etc.
Protecting democracy and stopping the war machine.
We have a principled stand against companies which produce instruments of death and destruction - we will not sell our equipment to arms manufacturing companies - despite many orders and clear commercial advantage. These companies make money by encouraging our governments to scare us and take us to war - don't be fooled into believing foreigners are out to get us, they have plenty of things to worry about in their own countries!
